Where is the mid-size Mac?
I've been thinking of getting a Mac one of these days, but where is their mid-range system? The Mac mini is nice and small, but the graphics and hard drive size doesn't cut it. And the Mac Pro is a Xeon-based, big bulky tower. I'm looking for something small, but with a good power supply and a little expandability.

Ironically, the iMac is now the mid-range Mac, if you want a desktop-type thing. There's no such thing as expandability with Apple hardware unless you get the tower or the Xserve, and even then you're getting a weird Apple sort of expandability.
My advice to people who want Macs: get a MacBook Pro. It's a beautiful machine that really well and on top of that it's portable. I have the 17" and it's sweet. The desktops... I'm not quite sure Apple knows what their market is.
Do max out the RAM if you can afford it -- usually third parties are cheaper than Apple for RAM though.

I would just like to say ditto to the previous commenter. Apple's laptops are the almost the best thing going for most uses.
Apple somewhat abandoned the third-party expandability through hardware interfaces tied to the motherboard (PCI/PCIe/) more in favor of using expansion through firewire and USB
Don't buy an Apple when there is a rumor that upgrades to the hardware are going to be implemented. I bought a G4 powerbook only to find out a couple months later the mactels were coming out at the same price I just paid for my powerbook. When Apple makes these kinds of upgrades, it tends to have a bit larger impact although it would seem that Apple products tend to hold their resale value a bit better.
Also - you can pimp out a mini but be forewarned - if you like a dual monitor rig, forget it because it will only support one monitor out of the box.

Daniel, I see that the MacBook Pro uses an ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with 256MB of GDDR3. That's pretty good, and can be used to play games - for about a year :) The 24" iMac has a GeForce 7300 GT with 256MB optional, but again - a year down the road your graphics will be old school.
I'd like to see something with a small profile, but with graphics upgradability - even half height PCIe cards. I've been looking at some miniITX motherboards - it's not a Mac mini, but it's pretty darn small:
